I’m a business owner, can I make outdoor seating permanent?

Most restaurants have the opportunity to apply for a conditional use permit (CUP) for limited outdoor seating. Please contact the Planning Department at 562-220-2036 and speak with a city planner about available options. With more interest, the City Council may also wish to update City regulations in the future to expand permanent outdoor seating opportunities.

Will I have to get my temperature checked before I’m seated?

Restaurants are not required to screen diners for high temperatures, although some may choose to do so before a patron can participate in outdoor dining. Please stay at home if you are feeling sick or displaying any symptoms of COVID-19. For a list of potential COVID-19 symptoms, click here.

What other safety guidelines are in place for outdoor dining?

Common areas and frequently touched surfaces/objects - like restrooms, tables, menus, doorknobs, and credit-card readers - must be disinfected on a regular basis.
